This unique Barn find, 1st owner, untouched & all original 1967 Shelby GT500 4-speed in the desirable Night mist blue factory color! Its also a true Promotional car thats equipped with almost all factory original options and a"mysterious"Airco system on board...

This car, besides its owner history, has an amazing story to tell!

In 1967 the all new Shelby GT500 was the first and ever Shelby model that received the famous FE 428 Big block engine as not even Ford installed these in their Mustangs yet (not until 1968). Carroll Shelby tuned the engine with some special components like a special intake with 2x4 bbl Holley carbs and a special air intake, and tweaked the engine to higher power outputs. The nickname for this 67' motor was the "Police interceptor"seeing it was very fast and strong. Carroll also changed many other components of the car and gave it its own special appearance. The complete car was build and developed with performance in mind just like it's predecessors the famous 65' and '66 GT350 cars and his Cobra's. 

With its special nose pieces and trim, the lightweight hood and trunk lid, the roll cage and 4 point seatbelts, the rear brake air vents ( early models only), special Shelby steering wheel, upgraded suspension and handling packages and more, the 1967 Shelby GT500 and also the small block GT350 were unique cars that were ready to be used for the track and on the streets and the all really carried Caroll's race pedigree, and they looked very promising to be used as race thorough breads as well. Sadly Ford pulled the plug on the race budgets for 1967 and Shelby alone couldn't finance it on his own. A story most of the Shelby fans all know to well. 

Later on in 1967 it was therefor also decided that Shelby cars should no longer be produced at Carroll's own facility but all production was moved to Ford. Therefor the 67'models are the last true Shelby developed and built cars. As from 1968 and on all Shelby models were produced in Ford's own facilities, making the earlier models amongst the most desirable and valuable cars around. They are really special and were the last Shelby's that still carried the racing background and pedigree. 

The 65-1967 Shelby's were all build for those who wanted and could afford a performance car that they could drive on the track on Sunday, and take to work on Monday something really rare back in the days. And that's something the first owner of this rare car understood and appreciated like no other. And that's also exactly what makes these rare and great looking cars so desirable up until today. The GT500's drove fantastic and the 428 was a very powerfull engine with great torque. 

Finding an untouched true 67 Shelby GT500 is already something very rare these days, but finding it in a barn, fully original and untouched, at the home of the actual first owner is a miracle. And if you then see this Shelby is also a true factory Night mist blue car, and a real Early inboard light car, combined with it being a true 4 speed car is just like finding the Holy grail of Shelby's. It has only 88000 miles on the odo meter from new. 

The car was also an official Shelby dealer Promotional car!. Its on the official list as one of only 37 cars that Shelby produced around March and April of 1967 to be send to 37 states as a dealer promotional car. This means this car was build with extra care and had many special options. This particulair car was send to the Florida dealer that later also sold the car to it's first owner. More about this topic and one of it's rare mistery option later on. 

The car that we are proud of to present to you here survived more than 52 years and was never before restored or changed and was owned by its original first owner all that time. The car is a real time capsule and one of the most original and correct Shelby's we have ever seen (and we have seen and owned many). He purchased the car back in 1967 at the Ford dealership in Jacksonville Florida where he found it in the Showroom as a dealer promo car as explained above. It was all he could dream of as in 1967 this was one of the hottest and fastest cars you could own. Lamont, the first owner was a real car guy, and he knew what he wanted!.

Strange and mysterious option when we found the car was a complete factory air conditioning system. And after carefully checking all the airco components and interior vent's and operating systems we have somewhat of a mystery here as its all factory correct pieces and also date coded correct for the production date of the car. Now it’s generally known that Shelby's did not come with airco systems until the summer of 1967 because there were some issues with getting the correct components from Ford. However Shelby experimented wit Airco system for the GT's late 1966 and it's known that he had some factory airco cars delivered to him for testing and developments. But officially no 1967 early production cars were ever send from Ford to Shelby according to Marti and the Shelby registry. Having that said we also know that not all factory data and records were correct and many mistakes were made. 

It's also known that Marti reports can have errors in them as all data the have came from Ford. So it’s not unthinkable that some cars or details and options were not always registered correctly. So it might be so that this car's airco is one of these errors. Seeing the car was ordered by Shelby in late 1966, around the time the started to work on airco cars, this car might have slipped through with airco installed.

Another theory is that Shelby added the Airco in this car and not Ford, maybe as a test vehicle or maybe just because it was a promotional Florida car and without Airco inside the car would just not have made an impact for potential buyers as Florida is one of the hottest states in the US and also a very big market for Shelby's cars. The last possibility is that the Dealer had it installed, or maybe even the first owner but this is not known at this time. However, seeing the huge costs that would have been involved in installing a factory correct airco system such as this car is equipped with, we think that this last option is not the case. Installing a factory airco system installation asked for many special provisions and changes on a car.

From special engine pulley's, and installing the pump and additional cooler, all the hoses, special electrical systems, special under dash equipment, special air vents in and under the dash, different heater and blower operating switches was all needed to perform this operation. And besides the huge costs at that time to purchase a full factory airco unit and al of its parts and components, the hours and costs to install would have been mind blowing. And there is the issue with factory warranty's that would have been cancelled and what else not. So all in all, it’s highly unlightly that this installation was installed by the dealer or its owner. 

So, hence the mystery of this car !, as it might well be the only early production Shelby in existence with a 4 speed and Airco on board and that would make this car even more unique than it already is. But again we can't prove this, but all points in that direction. Living in the warm state of Florida we can understand why the airco was installed, besides the fact who did the installation ( again, its all factory correct equipment and its installed in the correct way) that's something all of us can understand and something that Lamont as a first owner really appreciated!.

Lamont, who was a real Ford and Shelby guy; just loved his Shelby and the first years that he had the car he drove it on a daily basis and maintained it perfectly, as we can see in the original manual that is still with the car today. Over the years that passed he bought several other Shelby's and other special cars and even raced them. At some point in time his beloved 67' GT500 was no longer his daily driver as he wanted to preserve the car for many more years to come. On and off he drove the car, that was never restored and still in factory original condition, in the 80's and all the way up till 1999 !, when the car was set aside in his garage with its current 88000 miles on the odometer with the plan to start its restoration at some point as the car was showing its age by then. So on and off he actually drove the car for more than 33 years, which by today's standards is to be called unique. 

However, in the years in between, Lamont's car collection had grown and all these cars needed their fair share of attention so the time to start the restoration of his first Shelby just wasn't there. He pampered the car now and then, and he started here up every few months or so, but the full restoration that was planned just didn't happen and it just stayed in his garage as he loved it so much and never had any intentions to sell it ever. But time passed by and sad enough in early 2020 he passed away and his beloved Shelby stayed behind, untouched in his garage. 

His wife and family than needed to decide what to do with his legacy and although it was probably a very hard decision, they had chosen to sell his cars and find them a good new home, as there was no money, nor the knowledge to restore them. This was when we heard of this car and its story and after some visits to see this rare car and talks to his wife, we were able to purchase the car with the promise that we would restore it and not hack it up or use it as a Hotrod. a promise that was not hard to make by us as that was our only goal for the purchase in the first place. A deal was struck, and we took the car back to Holland with us. His wife told us that the car was as he bought in back in 1967 and nothing on the car was changed ever and never had any damages or accidents during its lifetime. We believed here and later found out she was more than correct. 


And although we already inspected the car back in the US and were amazed by the car's original condition, once we had it in our shop and started a full inspection we became more and more aware of how rare and original this car still is after more than 53 years. Lamont had only serviced the car with OEM parts, and we couldn't find a single incorrect part on the car. It's just amazing to find a car that still has all its parts original as with most Shelby's restored or not, the real important pieces were at some point in their live replaced or damaged. Not with this car, which of course is all due to the fact that the first owner had kept it in good condition all these years. 

Besides the fact that this rare time capsule has all its important Shelby components, like the fiberglass hood, trunk lid and scoops still in place, the complete interior is bone stock original as well and no aftermarket or incorrect pieces were found. But the most important thing what we could now confirm is that the complete engine, all its components, including the rare and unique dual quad intake and its dual BJ/BK coded Holley carbs (unique for 67' Shelby's), the radiator and all details were left untouched and are original to the car. 

The engine was inspected by us and is still in a unbelievable and very healthy condition and it still ran. But seeing its overall age we will need to rebuild it to preserve it for the next decades to come. The car's original Top loader 4 speed trans, complete with factory Vin stamp (4 speeds only in '67) and the driveshaft, rear axle, brakes, steering system etc, all is original to the car as well and functional. Unique and documented. 

The rest of the car is also in very solid and original condition. The frame rails are in as new condition and the rest of the underside also still carries its original pieces. The factory red oxide protective under spray can also still be seen and the floor panels and trunk area all appear to be in very healthy condition due to the fact that this Shelby was always garage stored and only driven in the dry and sunny state of Florida all of its life. There are only a few minor spots that might need to be repaired because of moist and damp (condense), but that's it. Never ever have we seen a Shelby so original and solid as this one. 

The car also carries all of its original trim, emblems, grill, bumpers, taillights and lenses, and they are all undamaged but in need of a resto or freshen up. Amazing also is the fact that as fat as we can tell all the glass of the car is also still original and the carry the correct factory markings and are in very good condition. Only the front window appears to have been replaced at some point, although we can't be sure of that just yet. The paint of the car is also mostly original but of course now in need of a repaint as you can clearly see its age. Another rarity on this car is the fact that it's an original 10 spoke alu wheel equipped car from new and it still has the original wheels on it today. Even the spare wheel and the jack are all accounted for and original. 

The fact that this car is also a desirable "early production"car that still carries the inboard fog lights in the grill and has the functional side scoops with air vents that run to the rear brakes, and is a factory 4 speed in the most desirable Night mist blue color with black interior just completes this stunning find. 

This car is for sale only in combination with a restoration performed by our shop, and is an amazing candidate for it. The car was never ever on the market before and is a true Barn find car, and more important a true and documented First owner car and a time capsule. The car is of course in the SAAC Shelby registry, and comes with a Marti report to show its pedigree and documentation and first owner title and original manual of the car and pictures of the first owner. It just doesn't get better than this. The car will not only be restored to show only, but also to be driven and enjoyed!.

Of the total of only around 1300 4 spds ever produced this car is one of only approx. 15 cars (early and later models combined) built with these options and in this color combination. And if we add to that the rare factory original and installed Airco with its mistery background on top of that, it's probably the only 67' Shelby GT500 produced like this one and only ad's more to this already very desirable car indeed. And if you also ad the fact that this car is a true registered and rare Florida Promo car, well that just tops things off!. A very special and rare care indeed.

There are so many "restored" cars out there that are just no more than a nice fresh paint job over hidden rot and rust, and engines and drive lines that are treated the same, a nice fresh paint on them, but actually are just old worn pieces internally and not pro-rebuilt at all. There is just no way in really knowing in what you buy and you might buy cheaper, but in the end you might have bought yourself a piece of crap which will ruin your fun and your investment.
