New in our showroom!
This gorgeous and very rare, real deal 1970 Pontiac GTO with the factory original 455HO big block engine and manual 4 speed transmission in its stunning looking factory original color combination. Wow what a great looking true Muscle car! With only around 1700 GTO 455's 4 speeds ever produced this stunning car can be called a rare car indeed. The fact that it also came from the factory in the gorgeous looking Coronado Gold metallic paint with matching interior color makes it even more rare and desirable. Its one of very few GTO's that received the factory rally stripe from the factory.
It makes this car very rare and its probably only one of a handful ever produced in this stunning color combination. And how many of these rare cars will still be around today? And that’s also completely original? And have their factory drive line still in place? And is in this high quality fully restored condition? We estimate very little and in this color and option combination it might well be the only one in the world left today!
The 1970 GTO 455HO was a rare sight on the streets! You almost never saw one life back then. As with all GTO's in 1970 the engine options were either the 400cui in 2-3 different versions with and without the Ram air intake and camshaft packages. But the top of the line engine you could order in the GTO for sure was the HO 455 cui (7600 cc) big block with around factory 360 HP and an amazing 677 ft.lbs of torque! Which was a true performance monster. It is a fact that the factory given HP/Torque ratings were way lower than the actual engines really had.
This was mainly done because this way they could avoid that buyers couldn’t afford the extremely high insurance costs that by 1970 these Muscle cars had, which made these cars sell much harder than the already did. Its estimated that the 455HO had up to 425+ hp easy and its ft/lbs figures were also heavily underrated. And with some mild tuning these 455H) GTO's were amongst the fastest Muscle cars ever produced. But many specialist as do we, all feel that Pontiac's performance models are also amongst the best steering and handling cars ever produced in these years and this car is a great example of one of the best driving muscle cars of its era.
The 455 HO engines were very well-designed and made these cars not only fast but because of the high torque they were also very well-designed, strong and civilized. He also ran very smooth and had almost no mechanical noises. It might well be that Pontiac (or GM's) 455 engine and its derivals were one of the smoothest and best-designed street performance engines of that era. With this car also being a Muncie 4 speed, it is a fast and great car on the streets because as you might well know, automatic trans cars can lose up to 35% of the engine crank power to the rear axle as were a 4 speed might only lose 5%. So the real wheel power with this car is the best you can get.
The car that were proud of the present to you here is a stunning example even besides its rare performance packages and engine, its also been completely body-off (rotisserie) restored to the highest standards and it also comes with all the paperwork to prove its pedigree. The complete drive line appears to be fully correct for the car and all the engine casting codes (Block, intake, exhaust manifolds) and stamping's on them appear to be correct and original to the car. All the cars Vin number stamps and other factory details are also present and all match the PHS documentation that comes with the car.
Besides that, a true performance car like this one needs a 4-speed and is great fun to drive as you can choose any shift moment you like, which makes your 0-60 times better and overall performance is improved as well. So this car you see here is a true 4 speed car. The car was ordered by its original first owner as a true performance car with all the correct performance parts, flair and style, but he didn't loose himself in all the other deluxe factory options that would ruin a true real muscle cars attitude and its performance. This car was ordered in a perfect balance between comfort and performance and is all you could want in a true performance muscle car back in the late 70's.
The body itself appears to be untouched and it looks like all the floors are also factory original. The car's structure is super solid and appears never to have been damaged or never had any obvious accident's. This made the car a great candidate for a high-end restoration and every part and detail of the car was taken apart, was restored or rebuild and build back into the car. The underside and all steering, braking, fuel and suspension components were also restored and so was the complete wiring system. The interior is also in stunning completely restored condition and carries all its factory correct pieces.
The paint job that was performed on the car is also magnificent and the body is laser straight and has a great shine. The underside and all the steering and suspension parts were also correctly detailed, coated and painted and as you can see on the pictures the underside is just as clean as the top!
And last but for sure not least, the beasts 455HO V8 and all its components, as well as the complete transmission and the rear axle were also completely restored and rebuild to factory specs and have only be driven around 20 test miles since the rebuild was performed. The only change that was made to the engine was a bit higher grade camshaft that gives the car even more performance, but nothing extreme. Take a look at the engine bay and you’ll see the engine bay is also really detailed and all correct to its factory specs, from the correct style air intake, correct coded hoses and wiring systems to the correct radiator and everything else. The Muncie trans shifts smooth and the clutch is not heavy.
The car is not only a showpiece, but was also built and restored to be used and driven, and we can tell you that this GTO also truly drives, steers and performs like the day it left the factory back in 1970 !. Everything on and inside the car also functions as it should. For its asking price you can't even restore a car of this magnitude, and we estimate that more than 100k euro was invested in its restoration alone. So besides the fact that it's a great car to own and drive or take it to car show or concourse event's, it is also a great investment opportunity for a great price which will leave room for growth for the future owners' investment.
This car is a real head turner and drives very well and is completely high end restored and fully rust-free super and fully documented rare collectors' car! It just doesn't get any better than this. The car is, as with all our cars, being fully inspected and the last details finished and once it gets our final Approval it will be for sale in our showroom soon.
