General discription

This real 2 owner , barn find 1967 Shelby GT500 with Toploader 4 speed manual transmission. The car is a very rare factory original Dark Moss green metallic car with black deluxe interior. The car is also a rare and factory correct "inboard" fog light car and comes with its functional side scoops and other special details that's typically and ONLY found on the Early production cars which makes them also very sought after and more collectible even than the later production cars. Its also a rare thermactor equipped car as it was sold new in California.

With only around 8 % of the GT500's  4 speeds produced in this color combination, and in combination with this cars factory original options this is considered a rare car. Especially because it's an actual Early production Shelby! with the inboard fog lights and functional side scoops, completely correct and all the body and engine and trans-Vin numbers in place. The car is in the Shelby registry and comes with a Marti report to prove its original pedigree. Very rare indeed.

The car is currently in its un-restored original, low miles survivor condition, but we have it for sale for clients who like to have it restored by us and who can follow the complete restoration personally. The car carries all of its original parts and the interior is also in very nice and all original condition and that in itself makes it a rare find indeed. The car also carries all its original Shelby numbers and stamps. The complete drive train is already being rebuild as we speak.

According to the Marti report and Shelby registry the car was scheduled to be produced on December 1966 (Very Early production) and was ready and shipped around mid January '67 to S&C Motors in San Francisco CA ( black plate car) . The car was sold to its first owner who also live in the sunny California states and it appears this car was with its first owner for around 5 years before the last owner purchased it in Early 1972. And after some problems he had with it he stuck the car in his barn! and it was left there for more than 47! years before we discovered the car, how unique is that!. How often do you see a real deal black plate Cali Shelby as original as this one?.

At some point along these 47 years the car was kept in his dry barn but ofcourse didnt get any better from standing there and the owner started to do a little work on the car somewhere in 94' but he stopped again as he didn't have the time to do the work after all. Then 15+ years later he finally decided it was time for the car to get a new home so it could be restored back to its former glory and that's when we found it and were proud to be able to present it to our customers. So what we have here is an actual 2 owner Shelby that spend its live almost entirely in a barn and only had 2 previous owners.

It took some negotiations with the owner to sell the car to us, but once he saw that we were specialized in Shelby's and that we had restored many Shelby's and found new owners for them who really enjoyed and apriciated these great cars, he was convinced and a than a deal was struck. The car is now underway from CA to our shop in The Netherlands were it will be rotisserie restored. Its great history and barn find past is an additional bonus and the car deserves to be restored back to its former original glory !.

The car therefore, spent its entire! life in the so-called dry and sunny states and that might declare why the car is still in very original and good condition today. Its also super original and all the important pieces are still with or on the car. The body and structure were undamaged and almost in as new condition still. The car has its numbers match drive train still in place and as is correct on 1967 Shelby's the 4 speed has the factory original Vin stamps in place as well. The engine is the original one as well and it has all the correct markings and date codes. Very unique!

All in all this rare early production car in its gorgeous and stylish Dark Moss green color is looking for a new owner who would love to see and follow the complete restoration process along the way which will be performed in our shop.

The car will be sold to that new owner for a special low price and a complete Quote of the restoration costs* will be given with that as well and all will be documented and video's of all will be made as well as soon as we will start the restoration up.  So its a rare change to see your Shelby being restored and build to the highest possible standards. Seeing this car is already very original, solid and complete, this car is a perfect candidate for a high quality restoration and it deserves it as well.

Once completed this car is estimated to be worth more than the cost of the car and the restoration included combined so it will leave room for growth in value the future owner for sure. But besides that the car will also be great fun to own and drive and it will be for sure a great car to show on Concours events or Shelby and Ford shows as its that rare indeed and it will win awards anywhere you would take it.

With the 428 FE police interceptor engine that was tuned by Carroll Shelby and upgraded, amongst other details, with a dual quad intake with 2 Holley carb's these cars were unique. Especially when they were hooked up to the famous top loader 4-speed manual trans, as performance to the rear axle was then almost 95% instead of only around 60-65 % with an automatic transmission. And seeing Ford didn't sell any 428 big block engines in there Mustangs until later in 1968, the 67 Shelby GT500 were one of a kind cars.

The cars are all produced in the Shelby production plant and not as the later 68-1970 models with Ford. This all combined makes 1967, besides being a fantastic model in itself, true Shelby's that still carried the Shelby race and performance pedigree. Something later models lost somewhat as the production of Carroll's cars was re-located to Ford factory's.

We won't start telling you who Carroll Shelby was and what made him famous and unique in car and race history, as this man might well be one of the greatest and well-known car icons the world has ever seen. This next to Enzo Ferrari, a name he also knew very well and who's car's he had beaten on the race tracks more than once. So he dos not need any further introduction we assume.

This is a unique change to see and follow your future Shelby being restored and you will know exactly what you get and prefer, as this way you can really see the complete process, all detailing and be 100% sure the car is going to be as you want it. Payments can be made throughout the during of the process by invoicing as we never ask any payments ahead. This way the cost of the restoration will be spread throughout the process in detail and can be checked and followed by the new owner. You wont come across another one like it, in this colors combination and with these options again for sure as barn finds are getting almost impossible to find. When this car is restored it will see the light of day again for the first time in close to 50 years and nobody has ever seen it before so its also a really fresh car for its new owner to show and shine with.

The car is a true collector's item and an investment grade car. Its history in brand name and status is legendary and its one of the last true Shelby car's. With prices for restored 67' Shelby's GT500's going up and up, this car is priced very interesting indeed. Especially with it being an Early car and very original and complete and with its original driveline already completely rebuild that will come with the car included in the asking price. This way you can for instance also choose to drive now and restore later.

We have seen correctly restored original cars getting sold for well over 350k on auctions last year, and those were not even Early production cars. like this car, that are even more desirable. Prices will also keep rising for future years to come, just as they have done so in the past 50 years...

But besides that, these big block fastbacks Shelby's are fantastic cars to drive and own, especially the 4 speeds. So don't wait too long, if you ever wanted a true 67 GT500 in the best condition you can get it, then this might be your chance to own one or ad it to your current collection.

* PTTM also has special spread payment plans that we can offer a client that wants us to perform restoration work and we only work with "work first pay later ", so no payments needed up front for work or resto details we need to perform on a car.

  • Guide: Matching numbers

In the collector car hobby, most investment-minded buyers are acutely interested in a specific car’s history. One of the main aspects of that history is an original or, as most people state it, numbers-matching drivetrain. At pedaltothemetal muscecars we feature a plethora of original and numbers-matching classics including ‘Cudas, Road Runners, Chevelles, Camaros, Corvettes and Trans Ams. And, if a potential buyer knows how to properly identify and interpret certain manufacturing codes, they can further validate their car’s history, or on request we can provide it.

  • Vehicle claims and descriptions

Vehicle/product descriptions, representations and claims on or offline are based on what can be seen by the human eye, documentation, previous professional experience, opinion, factory claims, and, or, information passed on to us by previous owners or restorers. It's to the best of our knowledge that everything we advertise has all indications of being that claim. Please inquire as to what documentation we have on the vehicle you are purchasing or feel free to ask any additional questions you might have, But by no means you can accept our answers as facts as the are our interpretation and might not match yours. It is with integrity and honesty that we describe our cars, but they are in fact, up to 50 years old, may have had many previous owners, modifications or alterations that are unknown to the us, so it's not possible to verify everything about every car in detail. Thereby the stated conditions or details of a car can never ever be taken as a fact. As always we welcome personal inspections and or independent appraisers prior to a sale. Incase we speak of "Original" or "Matching numbers" it means that we asume that to be the case, but with old classic cars thats by no means a guarantee. So please feel free to verify that in person or with a third party.

Pttm goes a step further than almost every other seller(s), as we also do a full inspection of our vehicles prior to having them for sale in our showroom and make repairs improvements if needed so. And when a vehicle/product is sold we give it a full service check before you receive it !
