Super smooth and completely body off 1970 Chevy Camaro 396cui RS/SS and now equipped with a fast all rebuild 468 cui Big block V8 hooked up to a TH400 automatic transmission with shift-kit and high stall converter. The car is really fast and in fantastic all new condition.
The 2nd generation Camaro was maybe one of the best looking Camaro's ever designed with its smooth and sleek coupe lines, the beautifully designed shark nose style grill, which in case you ordered the RS package also featured amongst other details, two additional fog lights that were built in next to a special grill and the RS also received the famous split front bumpers as were the other models had a 1 piece chrome bumper.
Just a very clean and classic styled sports coupe. Besides the all-new body design, the chassis and suspension and steering components were also all newly designed and improved and made this all-new Camaro one of the best steering and handling muscle cars of its era. This was backed up by many leading car magazine journalists, he spoke very highly of this all-new Camaro.
Up until around 1972 the Camaro was still available with the true V8 performance engines and drive lines, starting with the 302 small-block, the 350 small-block combinations and finally the famous 396 Big block, the Camaro was still a true muscle car. And although Chevy also had a 454 cui big block in their engine stable, it was never installed in any 1st or 2nd generation Camaro, the 396 cui high-performance Big block was the biggest and highest HP output engine that was used in the SS and RS/SS models exclusively.
By 1973 the famous big block was canceled altogether as were all true performance engines due to new environmental rules in many states and of course the fuel crisis. The fact that the base design of the second generation Camaro's was more or less unchanged until the early 80s shows that its design was way ahead of its time.
This 1970 (first model year) car lived it's easy live in the dry sunny states before it was restored and according to the original title that we have it was only driven around 19000 miles! before it was found and restored. It still carries almost all its original body and chassis components and it appears to be an original RS/SS big block car before the restoration was started.
Every nut and bolt was taken apart and the complete drive line, steering, suspension system, engine, transmission, rear axle, all chrome, the complete interior, all trim was rebuild and restored to a great quality standard. All the chrome details, all glass, trim and emblems are in great condition also and the complete suspension, steering, braking systems were also all rebuild to as new spec's.
The original 396cui big block was not up to specs so it was replaced with a stronger and faster 468cui Big block that makes close to 500 HP and it has a rebuild TH400 automatic transmission behind it. The rear end is equipped with some nice 3.73 rear end gears and a posi traction differential was installed together with new axles bearings and seals. This car is really fast and a great joy to drive. The engine bay and details were kept pretty much stock looking to give the car that great original and classic look.
It almost speaks for itself that it's equipped with power steering and power front disc brakes and the underside of this car looks spotless and factory original and correct. Nothing was overlooked and a lot of money was spent to get it in this amazing condition.
The new paint (factory Hugger orange) with black SS painted on stripes has a great and deep shine and was a real high quality job when it was applied new on the car. As you can see on the pictures this car is really one of the best Camaro's around. From its 150mph speedo, the floor console, and the RS and SS option packages, this car just screams performance.
The car runs and drives as new and it was completely serviced and checked in our shop, so no work needed!, this baby is great fun and has a gorgeous color combination. The 70 and up RS/SS Camaro's are amongst the most desirable classic muscle cars today, and we understand that as this generation Camaro drives way better than the first gen cars.
