Everything on this car is factory correct to its fender tag, with the only changed feature being that it now has white side stripes but on the tag it states that should be black, an easy fix if you wanted that change. Its also very nicely optioned as you can see in the below option list. But otherwise everything on this great car is it left the factory.
At the end of 1969, Plymouth introduced a new A body platform car design with the Plymouth Duster. A real sleek and lightweight type sporty looking coupe/fastback car with a name that was, at the time, derived from a cartoon character ( as so many Plymouth cars had at the time) called the Tasmanian Devil. However, Warner bros, owner of that name couldn't come in agreement with Plymouth/Chrysler over the terms to use that name so it was decided to make there own hence the Duster name was born. And the designers created their own character, a swirl similar to the Tasmanian Devil in flight. In years to follow many other famous names were used for the car such as Twister, Gold Duster, Silver Duster and than some. The name Duster became one of the most famous car names of that era.
The were all available with either a straight six Cilinder engine, or a as a V8 model equipped with a 318 cui V8. But the real hidden gem of all these Duster models was there Performance H coded car that was equipped with the famous 340 cui 4bbl engine, hooked up to either Chryslers famous and strong TF727 transmission or a manual 4 speed gearbox. The also came from the factory with the bullet proof 8 3/4 heavy duty rear axle, upgraded super stock type of suspension and an upgraded brake system.
This 340 engine, also sometimes called a mini-Hemi, was a super strong and fast engine. It was a perfect combination of a small and lightweight block with the right bore x stroke and enough room for a larger camshaft and special performance heads. one of the best performance V8's ever built by Chrysler; rated by the factory at 275 horsepower, some say it had an easy 330-350HP. With the 340, the Duster could easily beat the Nova 350 and its Ford mustang 351 equivalent, and even go after some of the big-block cars.
And with some tweaking and tuning and some open breathing headers and exhaust system the were even more close to 375HP easy. The 340 is up until today, one of the best Small block engine designs ever made it just loves to Rev and also has a great power to wait ratio in many cars. The fact this car also is equipped with an upgraded TCI but original style Chrysler 727 transmission that gives solid and firm shifts is also an added bonus. But if you want all things stock and original, well the original numbers match 727 trans is with the car as well.
This Duster, being a real deal H coded 340 is one of the best combinations you could want if true muscle car experience or feel is what you are looking for. These Dusters handled and drove great and besides the fact that the were still very comfortable and had a pretty spacey interior, could hold its own against any of the other brands muscle cars. With its uni-body design these cars were stiff and solid and the front torsion bar type suspension was also a great feature back than.
With its very lively color combination and factory stripe kit, its white vinyl top and clean and bright looking white interior, this car also really stands out and is a true 70's car as that was period in time when cars still could be striking in colors and buyers really wanted there cars to stand out and have a great appearance . Step inside this car and it will really take you back in time! This baby is also pretty fast as the engine was fine tuned to perfection and is very powerful and eager to perform. Its deep and raw sound which is created by its famous 340 cui performance engine is something you just need to here with your own ears...
It is just a laser straight and rust free body and structure and a car with a great deep shining factory correct paint job, tons of new parts and great chrome, glass and trim and a freshly restored the interior with its high back bucket seats, racy floor shifter with console and the optional great looking rally dash with its round faced gauges and in dash tacho, and its vibrant colors is a feast to drive and enjoy. The engine bay is also super clean and correct as is the underside and the rest of the car. The aluminum radiator is to be seen as a bonus to prevent overheating but on request we can also install an original version.
Lots of money was spend during its restoration and the drive line alone costs more than 25k to have it rebuild correctly and in this condition and all in all we estimate that more than 60k+ was spend in its restoration costs alone and that's without buying the actual car itself. And it being an all original and correct car, with its original drive line still in place, makes it very desirable indeed and a great investment for you money but also great for really driving and enjoying it. There is no work needed on this car, its all done and of the best quality.
These Mopar A bodies, and in particular the 340 H code cars, are amongst the most desirable muscle cars to have. Their fast, lightweight, very spacey and have a performance suspension and brake system. The fastback body lines are very clean and straight and although the might look small, there actually very spacey and have more head and leg room than say a Camaro or a Mustang.
The are also becoming rare and hard to find these days especially in this original condition as many of these cars were abused in racing or were customized. So don't confuse this car with just any Duster that you might see for sale for less on the markets today as this car is NO project car and doesn't need any work done to it, its a complete no cost spared restored and turn key car and numbers match which makes it a great investment as well.
