COMING SOON / EXPECTED
This 1963, one-year only production, Chevy Corvette Split-window Coupe with 340hp 327 cui V8 and manual 4-speed transmission is completely original and numbers matching and come's in the best possible color combination of Silver Sebring metallic paint with a red bucket seat interior! This is absolutely the most desirable and most valuable color and drive line combination for a 63' Split Corvette! It's one of only aprox.10490 cars produced and in this color combination it's estimated as one of only a few hundred cars ever produced and this combined with its manual and optional 4 speed transmission, very desirable 340HP engine and other special desirable options it might well be one of a handful build cars ever. Super rare. The car is all original, numbers matching and a very rare and highly desirable investment grade car.
It was restored in the late 90's and re-painted in red, ( see the last 8/10 pictures for its current condition/color) and it still shows very well indeed, but we found out that the original color for the car is Sebring Silver which makes these 63' Split window cars stand out even more and it shows the unique body lines and shapes much better. We also feel that the older restoration that the car had, and which is still very decent to our high standards, it also would deserve to be upgraded to a NCRS show quality level so the car will most lightly soon, receive a completely, more detailed, fresh restoration, fresh repaint in the original color of the complete car, and better detailing in our shop. Until than its also for sale as-is in its current ( turn key ready) condition and Red color.
But be aware, that even in its current original and very correct condition its a very beautiful car and good enough for most clients standards or requirement's. There is a complete map of the previous resto with the car and we will also fully document the new restoration. The cars biggest strong points are that its the correct and original body and chassis ( so its not a re-bodied car, or a clone ) and that it carries almost 99% of all its original components.
This would mean you can get a complete, super rare color combo, freshly restored and painted 1963 Corvette that's not only fully original and numbers match but also is equipped with the best engine Chevy had to offer in 1963* hooked up to a manual transmission. The car is also equipped with some rare options such as power steering, power brakes, and it's knock-off wheels !. What more could you ask for?
The complete drive train was also rebuilt and restored back in the late 90's and the car was only driven on some occasions after that. So the complete drive line is still in very good and healthy condition and it will be fully re-inspected and checked in our shop before we will re-install it in the car and put it up for sale. All in all this car will be in tip-top high-quality condition and turn key ready once it hits our showroom floor. So for now you can still choose this car anyway you like it, as is, in its current red color and condition, or as a high end "driver" quality restored car, or with a complete NCRS show quality style restoration.
With the base engine for the 1963 model year being a 327cui small block that produced 250 HP, the next best thing was the optional 300 HP version of that same engine design. The next choice was the 327 L76 engine with a whopping 340HP! followed by the Fuel injected 360HP engine. With the 327 cui Chevy engine being one of their best and strongest engine combinations ever, we feel the 340HP version is the best option you could want.
Yes the 360HP "fuelie" had more HP but that's also a very complicated engine with a fuel injection system that can cause many problems for its owner and is just not as reliable as the 340HP car. In speed and performance, the difference between those two optional engines is also hardly noticeable. The car we present to you here is also equipped with the optional manual 4 speed transmission instead of the stock 3 speed. Its therefore also much more valuable than say the base 250hp cars, or automatic trans equipped car's, keep that in mind!
The history of the 1963 Split-window Coupe is unique. It was the first year of the all-new C2 designed corvette's that was designed by Bill Mitchell and he envisioned the 63 Corvette with a full-length spine, starting with a central hood bulge, continuing over the roofline, and running the rear windows into the car's tail. At the center of the rear deck, a unique racing-style gas-filler cap was used. The tops of the doors were cut into the roof giving easier entry and exit in the low-sleek coupe. To emphasize that special ridge, Mitchell called for split window glass panels to be used for the rear window, forming a complete visual connection with the central raised section of the hood.
All in all, it turned out to be a unique futuristic design and it's maybe one of the best looking sports-coupes of all times. Just look at that magnificent shapes and forms, that unique 2 piece rear window and the design of the doors with there special in-roof cut's to give room for comfortable entry in the beautiful interior. If you look good you will also probably see some resemblance's with the famous Gull-wing Mercedes SL, or the Jaguar E type coupe, cars that also became classic icons, but we think the Corvette is even more stunning in its looks and possibly even in its performance with its great 327cui V8 engines. The rear view of a 63 Corvette Split-Window Coupe is one of the most iconic images in classic car history worldwide.
And keep in mind that this car also was amongst the fastest and highest HP car's of its time, with its 340HP V8 against only around 250/275 hp for its rivals as the Jaguar E Type, the Mercedes Gullwing, but even the million's of dollars costing Ferrari GTO! This just makes these light weight Corvette's highly desirable as the have great pedigree. And although we might look a bit down nowadays at Fiberglass bodied car's, keep in mind that in the 60's this was a very high-end material to use as it was lightweight and also it stayed rust free! And although the split window looks stunning, it was not the most practical when it comes to monitoring what's going on behind you as it blocked the rear view more or less.
This, combined with the fact that in the production line the costs and time for installing the two separate windows and all its special trim sadly caused Chevy to overrule Mitchell's design and as of 1964 the Corvette coupe got a 1 piece rear window. And although these cars also still look great, the unique Split-window design was just way more special and a thing of beauty.
Besides the all-new body design, Chevy did not forget to upgrade all the other details as well. The C2 got a completely new interior design with great looking classic style gauges, and the complete suspension, steering, and handling systems were new as well. And of course the engines as we discussed before were much more powerful and an all-new feature for the C2 also. It was also the first time the Corvette had an all-new independent type of rear suspension system and much better brakes. This made the C2 Corvette not only much faster but also it drove and handled like way better.
They were truly one of the best and well-designed sports cars of there era. But again , and above all the are looking car's and very rare seeing that thee were only produced 1 year! PTTM is very proud to present this true icon of American sports cars to its clients, and it's a car that fits perfectly in any high-end car collection.
The car that we present to you here are sample pictures of how the car will look once it's been re-restored in our shop.

And one look at the price books, a market analysis or your favorite classifieds will reveal that, in general, C2 prices have been virtually immune to dips and recessions.
