NEW IN OUR SHOWROOM NOW!
This amazing 79000 original mile, numbers matching Chevrolet Chevelle SS with the ultra-rare L78 375 factory HP 396 Big block!
It is one of only 1138 ever build performance Chevelle's with this engine and transmission combination. But seeing its rare and factory original color combination and TH400 automatic trans combined with its other options, this car might well be one of a handful Chevelle's ever built! Today only 34 of these rare L78 car's are registered and how many? Of these cars still, have their numbers matching driveline still in place and have a real build sheet to prove all its factory options?
Taking all this in consideration, this car might well be a real one of one car ever produced with this rare color and options combination such as the fact that this car is also a true cowl induction hood car and is equipped with the performance axle package. And it is in amazing original condition, never have we seen a 48-year-old performance Chevelle in this condition. The floors, quarter panels, doors, everything is completely rust-free and super clean. The underside of this car is like it came from the factory a week ago.
This original code 78 Black Cherry metallic paint is a very rare color for a Chevelle indeed and combined with its factory original white SS stripes and black interior, it really stands out. It might well be the best color combination for this 70 SS! With most Chevelle's or even Camaro's of Nova SS cars being clones, or missing there original driveline's, this car is proven to be the real deal and a true and rare collector's item and a great car to drive and enjoy. The Black Cherry color with white SS stripes makes it one awesome car.
With the base V8 engine in a 70' Malibu or Chevelle being a 302cui small-block, that was followed by the more powerful 350cui V8 SB engine, the base engine for a true 70' Chevelle SS car was the 325hp 396 Big block. Followed by a 350 HP version and then the real hi-performance engine the L78! With its impressive 375 factory HP ratings (in real the had close to 400+hp) Its was the most powerful engine you could get in a Chevelle besides the legendary LS6 with its 450 factories rated HP. This L78 car for instance with its performance 396 was more powerful and therefore faster than the larger 454cui LS5 code engine! which only had 360hp.
With prices of the real LS6 Chevelle's going through the roof this L78 car is the next best thing you could get in 1970 and it being a fraction lighter than the 454 LS6 engine, this car was almost just as fast!
Seeing this car is also equipped originally with its 3.55 gear ratio and limited slip diff the 0-60mph times are impressive. So this is a true muscle car in every sense of the word! And a car that wouldn't have many competitors on the streets back in the days. The car we present to you here is also, besides being a rare and true performance Chevelle, still in very rare original condition. All the body panels and floors are original ! to the car and so are almost all of its interior components and details.
The car had a mild restoration in our shop because it was already in immaculate condition and didn't need more but every detail is checked and perfected and because the original paint was no longer attractive we also gave the car a completely new high-quality paint job. But otherwise, this car is a true icon, as its still very, very original overall. The engine and transmission are also pro rebuild and the suspension and steering system as well and everything is just in perfect condition.
All in all this car is in fantastic condition and can be enjoyed by its new owner for many more years to come. But besides all that this muscle car still has almost all its other original piece's still in place as well.
Its completely rust free with all its original sheet metal, glass, floors, drivetrain and trim pieces and it has only 79000! proven original miles on the Odo, which also explains why this car has survived more than 45 years in its current condition.Truly amazing!
The first owner really knew what he ordered back in 1970 and he must have been a performance guy with a sense of style and flair as he ordered a rare and good looking color combination as well. Seeing this car was ordered with the performance packages it has and the 3.55 rear end gears combined with the TH400 trans, this baby was one of the fastest cars on the streets of his hometown for sure. The car for sure pulled away faster at the stop signs than most of the other cars he came across. The cars that would outrun it at the lights would have been limited to the 440 six-packs or Hemi equipped Mopar's with 395 and 425 HP and maybe a few another ultra-rare cars such as the Yenko's and an occasional LS6 Chevelle.
But the change you would meet up with one of these cars would be like finding a needle in a haystack! But seeing this car still has its complete numbers match drivetrain, original rear axle and looking at its great overall condition it might well be that the owners never needed to abuse the car to show its true performance as all was well taken care of throughout its lifetime. And to top it all of, this car is also the 1970 model, which by many Chevelle fan's is seen as the best looking model year for the Chevelle SS. As the 70'model had several sheet metal revisions which gave the bodies a more squared-up stance following the coke bottle styling, and interiors were also redesigned. It was also the first and only year for the dual headlights, special blacked out grill and it was also the first model year that the Cowl induction hood, with option code ZL2 was available as an extra cost option (not standard on any SS) which this car also happens to be equipped with!
It was also the last year the L78 engine option was available. After 1970 the SS option package was no longer an exclusive package for the real High-performance models, but it could be ordered as a dress-up package on almost any engine combination. So you could end up with a base 350cui small block car, with standard suspension and brakes having the SS badges that before 1970 was unthinkable. So its correct to state that this 1970 Chevelle SS we show you here, especially with all its additional performance features is one of the last true Performance SS cars that left the factory. So if your looking for a highly collectible, rare and real performance orientated Musclecar, this might well be your car.
It is also comes with its factory original build sheet which is very rare and desirable with any Chevy, and has driven only 79.000 proven miles and documentation to prove its pedigree.
The fact that this car is also restored with originality in mind and seeing its in great overall condition makes it even more desirable for sure. And with prices for matching LS6 Chevelle's going well over the 200+k marker, this car might well be the next best thing and its price is also much more attractive.
For this money, you can't even restored one, let only find a better example. We have seen other rare L78 Chevelle's, alrhough the were not as rare or in this amazing condition as this car is, being sold for over 100.000,- However our asking price is far away from that.
So here is your chance to own a great looking and correctly restored 70'Chevelle SS for a price that's not only very attractive but also leaves room for your investment to grow in years to come. If you want a quality car, this is it!
And besides it being a great investment, its an amazing car to own, drive and enjoy as well seeing its fully serviced and inspected by our crew and this car is not only for show but also for go! We can honestly state that this is one of the best and most original and true documented Chevelle SS cars we have ever seen, and we will probably never see, especially not a true L78 car, one like this great car again.
