General discription

Ford Mustang Fastback Eleanor GT500E build to your own specs, or as is turn key and ready to rumble! With around 11 Actual "Real" Eleanor's built for the famous movie: Gone in 60 seconds with actor Nicolas Cage behind the steering wheel. All the cars that were built were different from each other and used for special stages in the movie. Cars built for jumps and others for the driving action, a show car for the up close shots and a couple of fore promotional goals and for pictures. All were built from base standard Mustang fastback's and not as many people think or want to believe, from the car where it was based on, the 67 Shelby's GT500.

All cars that were built for the movie were small block cars as opposed to the real Shelby's GT500 cars that all were 390/428 big block engined cars. Some of the movie car's had a manual 4-speed trans and some even had automatic transmissions. The engines used in these cars were either the 289 cui, the 302 cui and some used the larger 351cui Ford engines. But today many Eleanor tributes are or can also be built with the Shelby GT500's original drivetrain or other Big block Ford performance engines.

So an Eleanor is not a transformed real Shelby GT500 or any other type of special or unique car brand, but a car based/cloned on a fantasy close to the shapes and forms of the actual GT500 and it was designed by the folks writing and making the movie!. The even copied the name from the Shelby, the GT500, but an E was added (E for Eleanor) so you could tell the difference. All cars are base ford mustang Fastback's, with body kits added to make them look more aggressive and in style with the famous true 67/68 Shelby Mustang's.. and not the other way around. But besides that, an Eleanor looks fantastic, that's for sure and its a highly desirable car to own, drive and enjoy, there is nothing to argue about that. The guy's who designed the car for the movie were spot on!

NON of the movie cars were built with functional NOS nitro systems, but most car's had the bottle and the actuator switch in the car there for the looks but none of them had a fully functional system. The suspension systems were mostly stock style Mustang suspensions with rear leaf springs and manual or power steering boxes. Only a couple of car's that were built and actually driven had some better, more performance orientated type of suspension upgrades, but nothing really special as you see now on some of the Eleanor tributes that were built after the movie cars. However all of the cars in the movie were painted in the popular pepper gray metallic color and all had the black Shelby style stripes, and of course the Eleanor style body kit and front and rear end.

So, all in all, every Eleanor that was build for use in or on the movie set was different, so building a tribute to these cars is more or less a freehand of taste, budget, and style as none of them were the same. This is the reason why you see so many different Eleanor's today as everybody gives there own swing or style and detail to these cars. And it is understandable for people wanting one to find the right car at the correct price seeing there are so many variations and so many different cars build, but the only real guideline for finding the right car is to turn to shop's like PTTM and use their knowledge of these cars.

And yes there were also some "official" approved Eleanor replica builders around once the movie and the car became such an enormous success and demand for them was high. Unique performance was one of them and the even had Caroll Shelby's "approval" to build a series of Eleanor continuation cars, but that was more a commercial driven theme than it said something about the quality the build as in the end all cars the ever produced were also based on the 67/68 Mustang's and depending on a clients budget were build accordingly. So this "approval" or licensed build car's are in fact not better or more special than any other Eleanor ever build and some of the so-called licensed builders were forced to close there shop due to improper and illegal activities.

So yes... finding a great Eleanor car for your budget might appear to be finding a needle in a haystack as there is just no such thing as a true and all correct, high quality build Eleanor tribute or clone. It all depends on HOW good the car was built and with what components and that's where we can help you with or assist with. Prices of properly build and tested Eleanor's can run from 100-300k or even more and if you don't know where to look for, you can also easily be tricked in buying a car and overpay bigtime for it in the end.

With the actual real-deal movie car's being priced for well over a million dollars or more these days, and are almost never seen for sale on the market, owning an Eleanor for most of us is a matter of building one or have one build for you, or to buy one one of the tribute cars that are ready to drive. And seeing the car's huge popularity ( understandable seeing its fantastic appearance ), many cars that were built as tribute cars have there own details and upgrades and that's all ok seeing none of them are used in the movie anyway so why not build it or find one you like.

So finding your self a movie correct? Eleanor style car won't be an easy task as even the movie cars were all different from each other as well. And although most tribute or clone Eleanor's were build based on the pictures or movie images, under the hood and in detail no "real all correct movie style Eleanor" can exist, simply because none of them were the same as well. And although we have built and sold car's that were almost all correct we cant ever state that they are as to which of the 11 builds, all differently equipped car's do you set your guidelines too ?. But yes its possible to make a car look almost exactly like the movie cars, but ask yourself if that's important to you, or if you just want a car to have the same style and appearance, in combination with your own personal taste in performance, styling, and driving, as at the end that's the only thing that counts right?

So feel free to detail a car to your own personal liking's, or have us do that for you, or to find a car that looks and is as close to the movie cars details that you can see on the screenshots or pictures, with which we can also assist with. But there is no real 100% bulletproof guideline for that. Every Eleanor in itself is a great car to see, own and enjoy, as long as it has the body kit and the sleek shapes and forms of the actual movie car's you can't go wrong. It's also the outside of these great looking cars that People in general fall in love with, not knowing there are many difference's between each car ever build. The quality of the build is the guideline in buying or finding a good car and that's where most people get lost and turn to Pro shop's like us to help them with that or to have us build them a complete car from scratch.

The base of all these cars should be fastback mustang's but as time rolled along and Fastback Mustangs became harder and harder to find and prices for them skyrocketed, there were also people that turned to mustangs coupes, then chopped off the roofline and added a polyester fastback roof on their cars... Just to be able to make an "affordable" Eleanor. That's not a car you would want because the structure and strengths of the body of these build over coupe's are absolutely gone and these car's are more or less dangerous to drive and the body kits won't stay without problems as well.

PTTM offers true fastback Eleanor's only, and all cars we can offer will be built or changed/upgrade to your personal specifications on request. Prices can differ because of certain high-end upgrades, performance engines or suspension systems or other additional options, as well as overall quality of the car(s) themselves, and the way they were built and painted. So if you want to know more about owning and buying and Eleanor, feel free to call or email us, or better come by the shop!

  • Guide: Matching numbers

In the collector car hobby, most investment-minded buyers are acutely interested in a specific car’s history. One of the main aspects of that history is an original or, as most people state it, numbers-matching drivetrain. At pedaltothemetal muscecars we feature a plethora of original and numbers-matching classics including ‘Cudas, Road Runners, Chevelles, Camaros, Corvettes and Trans Ams. And, if a potential buyer knows how to properly identify and interpret certain manufacturing codes, they can further validate their car’s history, or on request we can provide it.

  • Vehicle claims and descriptions

Vehicle/product descriptions, representations and claims on or offline are based on what can be seen by the human eye, documentation, previous professional experience, opinion, factory claims, and, or, information passed on to us by previous owners or restorers. It's to the best of our knowledge that everything we advertise has all indications of being that claim. Please inquire as to what documentation we have on the vehicle you are purchasing or feel free to ask any additional questions you might have, But by no means you can accept our answers as facts as the are our interpretation and might not match yours. It is with integrity and honesty that we describe our cars, but they are in fact, up to 50 years old, may have had many previous owners, modifications or alterations that are unknown to the us, so it's not possible to verify everything about every car in detail. Thereby the stated conditions or details of a car can never ever be taken as a fact. As always we welcome personal inspections and or independent appraisers prior to a sale. Incase we speak of "Original" or "Matching numbers" it means that we asume that to be the case, but with old classic cars thats by no means a guarantee. So please feel free to verify that in person or with a third party.

Pttm goes a step further than almost every other seller(s), as we also do a full inspection of our vehicles prior to having them for sale in our showroom and make repairs improvements if needed so. And when a vehicle/product is sold we give it a full service check before you receive it !
